Job Title: Plant Reproductive Biologist (Entry Level)

Job Description:

• This entry-level role involves studying the fundamental principles of plant biology and the impact of environmental conditions on plant growth.

• The position requires familiarity with standard concepts, practices, and procedures within the field, and includes a variety of

• tasks performed under general supervision.

Key Responsibilities:

• Cultivate plants in controlled environment settings.

• Support scientific research on maize pollen, speed breeding, and seed production.

• Assist with plant breeding and nursery optimization activities, including prototype development and testing.

• Collect field and greenhouse samples, conduct viability assays, perform pollinations, and maintain accurate records.

• Operate greenhouse environmental control systems and perform routine maintenance (e.g., cleaning floors, organizing supplies).

• Participate in team and project meetings, and communicate updates, changes, or issues promptly and clearly.

Qualifications:

• Bachelor's degree in a relevant field and 1 3 years of related experience.

• Ability to lift 50 lbs. and perform repetitive movements such as bending.

• Willingness to travel to field sites located 4 6 hours from Chesterfield, with approximately three overnight trips (3 4 days each) during the summer (June August).

• Strong interest in greenhouse operations, plant propagation, and irrigation.

• High attention to detail and effective task prioritization.

• Ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a multi-project team environment.

• Proficiency in basic math and Microsoft Office applications (Excel, Outlook, Word, PowerPoint).

PPE Requirements:

• Closed shoes, pants, long sleeve shirts, safety glasses
