Job Description

We are seeking a skilled Remote Overhead Crane Operator to safely and efficiently operate overhead cranes (remote-controlled) to lift, move, position, load, and unload heavy steel coils, sheets, plates, and other materials throughout our busy steel service center. This role is critical to daily operations, supporting shipping/receiving, inventory management, processing lines, and customer order fulfillment while maintaining the highest safety standards.

Key Responsibilities

• Safely operate remote-controlled overhead cranes to transport heavy steel products (coils, sheets, plates, bars) within the facility
• Load and unload trucks, stage materials for processing, and store/retrieve inventory in designated rack locations
• Perform pre-shift and post-shift crane inspections, complete required checklists, and report any maintenance issues immediately
• Attach and detach rigging (slings, chains, coils grabs) properly and verify load stability before movement
• Coordinate with team members (forklift operators, machine operators, shipping/receiving personnel) using hand signals, radio communication, and clear verbal instructions
• Read and interpret work orders, customer specifications, and material tags to ensure accurate handling

Qualifications & Requirements

• Required: - High school diploma or GED
  • Proven experience operating overhead cranes (remote-controlled preferred) in a heavy industrial or steel/metal environment
  • Strong safety focus with understanding of rigging, load limits, and hazard recognition
  • Ability to read tape measures, work orders, and basic blueprints/specifications
  • Reliable transportation and willingness to work scheduled shifts (may include overtime)
