Job Summary: 

The Registered Nurse is a clinical practitioner who assesses, coordinates, implements and evaluates patient care specific to the age of the patient population served from newborn to the elderly.  He/she ensures that quality care is provided in an efficient and safe manner, consistent with the unit’s standards of care.  He/she demonstrated performance consistent with the mission, philosophy and goals of the unit and organization; remains flexible to changing system; is expected to demonstrate quality and effectiveness in work habits and clinical practice; and treats staff, physicians, patients and families with consideration and respect.  Acts as a patient advocate at all times. 

Primary Job Responsibilities: 

1. Obtains and records initial assessment and establishes priorities according to patient age, symptoms, psychological and spiritual needs. 
2. Reassesses patients systemically to identify progress and trends that require intervention. 
3. Assesses and reassesses their patient’s level of pain, providing effective treatment and the necessary education for follow-up care. 
4. Maintains knowledge regarding telemetry and EKG interpretations. 
5. Makes comprehensive nursing decisions based on the interpretation of facts and evaluations of patient outcome; modifies the plan of care based on evaluations. 
6. Participates in patient/significant other health education and discharge planning. 
7. Implements and documents timely interventions appropriate to patient needs. 
8. Utilizes infection control measures appropriately. 
9. Delegates unit work assignments appropriately to ensure completion of required patient care support activities. 
10. Coordinates team assignments and makes adjustments based on patient and unit needs; follows up on delegated patient care tasks for quality and completeness. 
11. Utilizes the appropriate chain of command for the resolution of difficult issues. 
12. Assumes accountability for continual education enhancement. 
13. Participates in orientation of new staff/students on the unit. 
14. Maintains competency for operation of all unit equipment. 
15. Performs other related duties as assigned or requested. 
16. Maintains a neat, organized and safe environment for patients and staff. 
17. Maintains competency for operation of all unit equipment. 
18. Performs other related duties as assigned. 
19. Knowledgeable in the duties of OR circulator. 
20. Assists in administrative duties as directed. 
21. Available for “leave word” for emergencies as directed by the department rotation. 
22. Will embody FOCUS values through interactions with patients/residents and coworkers. 

Required Qualifications: 

1. Graduate of an accredited school of nursing. 
2. Currently licensed to practice nursing in the State of Illinois. 
3. Maintains ACLS, PALS and BLS Certification. 

Preferred Qualifications: 

1. Intraoperative surgery experience 

Open: Until Filled

Hours Per Week: 24.0

Anticipated Schedule: Rotating Days (start and end time will vary depending on schedule)

Areas Covered: Will rotate through all areas of surgery (pre, intra, PACU, post op)

Call: Every 6th Saturday (0700-1200)

Wage Range: $34.00 – $45.00/hour (Actual wage based on relevant experience)
